Guiyang: Known as the 'City of Forests', Guiyang is demonstrating strong progress in its commitment to eco-civilisation through significant achievements in environmental treatment, green industry transformation and public participation in sustainability efforts.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Guizhou Environmental Protection Industry Association reported that the city recorded a 99.5 per cent excellent rate for ambient air quality in 2024, ranking fourth among 168 key cities in China.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Guiyang Eco-Environment Bureau stated that the city will continue to implement its eco-city strategy and contribute the 'Guiyang Experience' to China's broader eco-civilisation efforts.
Guanshanhu District serves as a model for environmental management, integrating technologies such as the Internet of Things, sensors, drones and artificial intelligence into a grid-based eco-environment monitoring platform.
The Xiaowan River's water quality improved from inferior Class V to Class IV and above, following comprehensive treatment efforts. The rural sewage treatment rate in Guiyang reached 97.96 per cent, and all black and odorous water bodies have been dynamically cleared.
Guiyang has also been promoting green industries under the principle that 'lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets'. The township of Jiu'an, once dependent on coal mining, has seen former miners become tea farmers, and former coal mountains transformed into scenic tea gardens with products exported globally.
In Yunyan District's Chayuan Village, drainage infrastructure upgrades have separated rainwater from sewage using a combination of lower drainage pipes and upper drainage ditches, significantly improving local living conditions.
The city has invested in public eco-culture education. Guanshanhu District is home to Guizhou Province's first county-level eco-civilisation exhibition hall, recognised in 2023 as a national green and low-carbon case base.
It also serves as a key demonstration site for the Guiyang International Forum on eco-civilisation. Community activities such as eco-education courses and art competitions are part of an 'Ecological Season Campaign'.
Guizhou Qianling Mountain Park, free to the public, receives over 10 million visitors annually and plays a vital role in promoting harmony between people and nature through its diverse natural landscapes and wildlife.
