Malaysian Ministries Recognized for Cutting Bureaucratic Red Tape

Putrajaya: Three key Malaysian ministries have been awarded special certificates of appreciation for their successful efforts in implementing reforms to reduce bureaucratic red tape.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) were recognized for their significant achievements in streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency. The Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, highlighted these accomplishments on social media.

The Ministry of Communications made notable strides by improving the approval process for foreign film scripts. The timeline was reduced from 30 days to a mere seven days, resulting in regulatory cost savings of up to RM2.4 million per production. This reform is expected to bolster Malaysia's appeal as a favored destination for international film production. The ministry's secretary-general, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, received the certificate during a ceremony held in Putrajaya.

The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) also received recognition for reforms driven by the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM). They successfully reduced the approval time for Electric Vehicle Charging Bay Plan Certifications from 28 days to just three days. Additionally, JBPM managed to expedite the approval process for non-system-based technical plan certifications, cutting it down from 30 days to seven days. These improvements were achieved through streamlined procedures, enhancement of the e-Premis system, and the creation of a central data repository, leading to annual regulatory cost savings of RM1.776 million.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) focused on reducing barriers to financing within the aerospace sector. This initiative generated RM17 million in regulatory savings for 50 small and medium enterprises by increasing production capacity by up to 30 percent. The ministry reported that gross profit margins rose by over 20 percent due to automation and certification, thereby strengthening the supply chain and creating more high-skilled jobs.

Certificates were presented to KPKT secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Taib and MITI's senior director of the Strategic Planning Division, M Punitha Veni, in recognition of their ministries' achievements.
