Health Ministry Proposes Enhanced Measures for Tackling NCDs in Budget 2026

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Health (MOH) is advocating for new proposals to be considered under Budget 2026, focusing on bolstering efforts to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and obesity.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad revealed that several engagement sessions have been conducted with Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and other relevant agencies. These sessions were aimed at submitting additional proposals beyond the standard budgetary allocations. The proposed incentives are designed to intensify the battle against NCDs. Dr Dzulkefly expressed anticipation for the Finance Minister II and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to incorporate these suggestions into the forthcoming Budget 2026.

Dr Dzulkefly emphasized the need for the proposals to focus on preventive, promotional, and predictive health strategies while maintaining attention on curative hospital-based patient care. Additionally, the ministry aims to enhance population health management, particularly in public health sectors to address NCDs.

Budget 2026, slated for presentation in Parliament on October 10, will adhere to the three pillars of the MADANI Economy. These pillars include elevating national growth, enhancing citizens' living standards, and driving reforms with an emphasis on good governance. This budget marks the first under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) for the 2026-2030 period.
