High Court Dismisses Perikatan Nasional’s Interim Stay Request Against Suspension

Kuala Lumpur:The High Court has dismissed Perikatan Nasional's (PN) application for an interim stay of the Registrar of Societies' (RoS) order, which suspends the coalition's activities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, while the court denied the interim stay, Judge Datuk Azizan Md Arshad granted PN leave to challenge the suspension order through a judicial review. The judge noted that PN met the threshold to commence these proceedings, with the inter partes application hearing scheduled for October 22.

The Registrar of Societies issued a suspension on all PN activities effective from September 23, following a notice on September 22, 2026, under the Societies Act 1966. Subsequently, PN and its four component parties filed for a judicial review on October 5, spearheaded by PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and other party officials.

The respondents in the case are RoS director-general Datuk Mohd Zulfikar Ahmad and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The suspension order has reportedly hindered PN's political operations, including preparations for the 16th Melaka State Election.

Legal representatives for PN have emphasized the urgency of the matter, citing the rights of voters in Melaka, and plan to argue for a stay of the suspension to enable election participation. The court has ordered affidavits and written submissions to be filed by October 16 and 21, respectively, with proceedings attended by PN's lawyer and Senior Federal Counsel for the respondents.

In his affidavit, Takiyuddin Hassan highlighted the suspension's impact on PN's ability to function and participate in the forthcoming election, alleging the order was issued without due process and disputing RoS's jurisdiction over internal coalition matters.
