High Court Sets October 24 for Decision in SRC’s Suit Against UMNO and Selangor UMNO

Kuala lumpur: The High Court has scheduled October 24 for a decision in the civil suit initiated by SRC International Sdn Bhd and its subsidiaries against UMNO and Selangor UMNO. The case concerns the alleged receipt of RM19.5 million from SRC International by the political entities in 2015.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Judge Datuk Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah Raja Mohzan concluded two days of oral submissions led by counsel Razlan Hadri Zulkifli for the plaintiffs-SRC International, Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd, and Jendela Pinggiran Sdn Bhd. Representing UMNO was counsel Mohamed Shahrul Fazli Kamarulzaman, while Datuk Hasnal Rezua Merican appeared for Selangor UMNO.

The plaintiffs are seeking to recover RM16 million from UMNO, contending that the funds were transferred without a lawful basis. The second suit targets Selangor UMNO, with a claim of RM3.5 million under similar allegations.

During proceedings, Hasnal Rezua argued that the funds were political donations, while Razlan Hadri highlighted a breach of fiduciary duties, backed by evidence and admissions from former SRC International director Datuk Suboh Md Yassin regarding the signing of blank cheques.

Mohamed Shahrul Fazli maintained that UMNO had utilized the RM16 million for corporate social responsibility initiatives, aligning with the party's stated purpose for receiving the funds.
