Housewife Embellishes Home With Jalur Gemilang for 2026 National Day Celebration

Bandar al-muktafi billah shah: A housewife has taken the initiative to decorate the compound of her home with the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of her love for the country in conjunction with the 2026 National Day celebration on Aug 31.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kitam Mat Deris, 55, from Block C, Taman Madani, began putting up and decorating the front compound of her home with Jalur Gemilang flags of various sizes early this month to enliven the Merdeka atmosphere. Kitam's efforts aim to create a festive National Day atmosphere while instilling a patriotic spirit among residents, particularly the younger generation.

"Although I am already 55, I still want to do something to show my love for the country. The Jalur Gemilang decorations may seem simple, but I hope they can help foster the spirit of independence," she told Bernama when met at her home.

Kitam shared that her husband, Che Musa Ismail, 74, and their daughter, Murni Safiqah Che Musa, 32, also contributed ideas and assistance in decorating their home. Most of the Jalur Gemilang flags and decorative items used were purchased online, saving both money and time. Kitam noted that she has spent more than RM500 on these decorations, emphasizing that it is the spirit and love for the country that matters most.

Her home was also selected to represent Block C in a beautification competition held in conjunction with the 2026 National Day celebration, organized by the Central Terengganu Development Authority (KETENGAH). "This selection has further motivated me to ensure that the house looks cheerful and reflects the festive atmosphere of the National Day celebration," she said.

In addition to decorating her home with the Jalur Gemilang, Kitam spends her free time gardening, growing various ornamental plants and herbs in the compound of her house.
