Kuala lumpur: An enforcement officer was detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on suspicion of engaging in a misconduct known as 'Counter Setting.' This alleged collaboration between immigration officers and syndicates facilitates the entry of foreigners without valid documents.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) announced that the officer was apprehended around 9:20 am by the AKPS Monitoring and Integrity Unit. The detention followed the review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, which showed the officer's suspicious behavior at the entry checkpoint.
The detained officer was found with RM8,391 in cash, three communication devices, and several notes containing passport numbers, believed to be linked to the illegal arrangement of entry and exit for individuals. The notes reportedly contained the last four digits of passport numbers, indicating involvement in organizing unauthorized entry and exit routes.
The AKPS confirmed that the officer has been handed over to the AKPS KLIA Integrity Unit for internal investigation and will subsequently be transferred to the Selangor branch of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further action. The agency emphasized its serious stance on integrity breaches, particularly those compromising the nation's entry points, and vowed to take stringent action against any officers found involved.
The AKPS reiterated its commitment to enhancing internal monitoring and collaborating with other agencies to combat misconduct among officers.
