Kota kinabalu: The implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), particularly concerning the provision of 40 per cent of the Federal Government's net revenue from Sabah, should be resolved through sincere and constructive negotiations, stated Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tun Musa emphasized that negotiations should be grounded in the spirit that led to the formation of Malaysia, which is celebrating its 63rd anniversary as Malaysia Day. He highlighted the importance of reaffirming the principles underlying the Malaysia Agreement 1963 on Malaysia Day.

Tun Musa described Malaysia Day as more than just an anniversary celebration; it serves as a reminder of the promises made and the shared responsibility to maintain unity, respect foundational principles, safeguard peace, and ensure equitable prosperity. He expressed confidence in overcoming challenges and building a peaceful and respected nation through mutual respect and unity.

He noted that this year's Malaysia Day comes amidst global challenges, including geopolitical tensions, cost-of-living pressures, and climate change. Malaysia, therefore, must remain resilient and united, focusing on economic strength to improve living standards, create employment, and distribute opportunities fairly across the nation.

Tun Musa stressed the need to address the development gap in Sabah, particularly in basic infrastructure like water, electricity, roads, healthcare, and education, to ensure inclusive growth. He stated that a prosperous Sabah contributes to a stronger Malaysia.

On social issues, he reiterated that there should be no room for racial or religious extremism, highlighting Sabah's tradition of tolerance and mutual respect. He urged leaders to prioritize the country's interests over personal agendas and avoid exploiting racial or religious sentiments for political gain.

Tun Musa called on Malaysians, especially leaders and aspiring public office holders, to prioritize the welfare of the people and the nation above personal or political interests.
