Johor Bahru: The implementation of Bangsa Johor pilot school (SRBJ) in four schools will be evaluated within six months to a year," said Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin. He said that monitoring of the students involved would be carried out every month to ensure its smoothness and effectiveness.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aznan expressed confidence in the commitment of teachers to support and mobilize SRBJ, with monthly monitoring of learning activities. "It does not only involve monitoring at the Johor State Education Department level, but also my office, this is to ensure that it is implemented well in these selected schools," he said at a press conference after visiting Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Kota Puteri 4.
The implementation of SRBJ officially began today, involving 2,574 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tasek Utara, SMK Seri Kota Puteri 2 Masai, SK Tasek Utara Johor Bahru, and SK Seri Kota Puteri 4. Aznan stated that there would be an engagement session with parents of the students on Feb 20 to discuss the objectives of SRBJ.
"The first phase of learning will proceed as usual and it will not interfere with the syllabus of the Ministry of Education (MOE), as some learning methods will be added," he explained. He emphasized the importance of the engagement session to ensure that parents understand the state government's intentions regarding SRBJ.
Aznan mentioned that approximately 90 SRBJ teachers in the four schools will undergo training at the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Singapore next April. This is part of the phased training for 212 teachers. The Phase 1 group of SRBJ teachers and the leadership team previously visited Singapore on Feb 10.
SRBJ focuses on the mastery of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and English, requiring students to complete at least 112 hours of STEM classes annually, compared to at least 64 hours in other schools. Aznan highlighted that the state government's efforts align with the directive of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, to enhance the quality, system, and facilities of education in Johor, as well as updating the existing subject syllabus.
