Sarawak: The Serian District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Sarawak reported a very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 241 this morning, marking an increase from yesterday's reading of 204.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal shows that eight other areas in Sarawak also recorded unhealthy API readings. These areas include Sri Aman with a reading of 189, Kuching at 186, Samarahan at 179, Sarikei at 173, Sibu at 156, Bintulu at 154, Samalaju at 145, and Kapit at 129.
Nationwide, fifty-six areas registered moderate API readings ranging from 51 to 100. Additionally, three areas achieved good air quality levels, with API readings below 50.
The API scale is used to classify air quality, where a reading of zero to 50 signifies good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and readings exceeding 300 are considered hazardous.
API data is disseminated hourly, with readings collected from 68 air quality monitoring stations across the country.
