New York:London Heathrow has been ranked last while New York's JFK has emerged as the leader among eight major international business hubs in the Airport WiFi Stress Index by eSIM provider Holafly. This index assesses and compares the Wi-Fi conditions at airports for business travelers.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wi-Fi speeds at JFK Airport reach an impressive 151.6 megabits per second (Mbps), which is sufficient to download a large presentation in about 30 seconds. In contrast, Heathrow Airport's Wi-Fi speeds are significantly lower at 12 Mbps, causing the same file download to take over five minutes, and potentially up to 13 minutes during peak morning hours.
Holafly's Head of Sales for B2B Direct Sales, Davide Ilardi, emphasized that every minute employees spend waiting for files to load is a cost to the company. Additionally, some airports impose limits on free Wi-Fi sessions, with Frankfurt offering 30 minutes and Dubai providing 60 minutes, after which users must pay approximately US$5.40 per additional hour.
Holafly's 2026 Summer Travel and eSIM Report highlights that 53.4 percent of business travelers arrange their own internet connection, which may reduce employer control and increase the risk to corporate data on public networks. Among those provided with an eSIM by their employer, 81.3 percent believe it enhances productivity, compared to 52.4 percent of those who organize their own connection.
Holafly offers a business service that enables companies to allocate international eSIMs to employees prior to travel, allowing management of their plans online. This service provides mobile data on arrival, enabling secure access to work tools without dependence on airport Wi-Fi.
