Johor JPJ to Address P-Hailing Rider Offences with Operators

Johor:The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) is set to meet with p-hailing operators to address the issue of repeat traffic offences by riders, particularly the running of red lights. The discussions aim to enhance road safety awareness among riders.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state JPJ director, Zulkarnain Yasin, emphasized the need for operators to contribute to developing strategies that encourage riders to avoid repeated offences and prevent accidents. Numerous complaints have been received about such offences, often captured on dashboard camera footage.

Zulkarnain highlighted the importance of operators having policies in place to prevent, restrict, or suspend riders who violate traffic rules. He mentioned that the JPJ imposes demerit points on repeat offenders, which could lead to the suspension of driving licenses once 20 points are accumulated.

He further noted that operators should take proactive measures alongside the authorities to manage rider behavior. Motorcyclists represent a significant portion of road accident statistics, accounting for 60 to 70 percent of accidents and fatalities.

The JPJ is also gathering recent accident data involving p-hailing riders from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) as part of its efforts to improve enforcement in accident-prone areas and reduce road accidents.
