Melaka:The police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have been called upon to investigate a viral video that allegedly links Kota Laksamana assemblyman Low Chee Leong and the Democratic Action Party (DAP) to a religious school for the Rohingya community in Melaka.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Low Chee Leong has refuted the allegations, asserting that they are defamatory and have harmed the reputations of the DAP, Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong, and himself. In response, his assistant, Tan Chin Gwan, lodged a police report at the Tengkera Police Station to prompt an investigation and protect their reputations.
Low has criticized the video, which was shared on Facebook by an account named Steven Lee, for inappropriately linking the school in Pengkalan Rama Pantai to DAP, especially with the Melaka state election approaching. The 45-second video, posted at around 835 am, has been viewed approximately 462 times and claims that the building is a DAP religious school protected by the party.
Emphasizing that DAP lacks authority over religious schools, Low stated that religious enforcement falls under the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM). The police report aims to ensure that the allegations, which involve sensitive 3R issues—religion, race, and royalty—are thoroughly investigated. Low also called for JAIM to address the matter within its jurisdiction.
He acknowledged awareness of the building and mentioned that concerns about its use by the Rohingyas had been raised and discussed in Village Development and Security Committee meetings, with reports sent to the district office for further action.
