Johor bahru: The Johor state government, through its Budget 2026, continues to improve the public transport sector to offer safer and efficient services, in line with rapid development and the implementation of major projects such as the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh announced strategic steps to enhance public transport, including a study to take over public bus terminals. This initiative aims to standardize and improve management standards, making terminals high-tech, cleaner, and safer, in accordance with the Land Public Transport Agency's (APAD) standards.
The state government plans to upgrade the Pasir Gudang City Centre Bus Terminal Complex and the Penawar Bus and Taxi Terminal with RM2.6 million. Additionally, RM31 million will be allocated to the Muafakat Johor Bus (BMJ) initiative, RM895,000 for the Smart Public Bus Terminal Digitalisation initiative, and more bus pillars along BMJ routes. Furthermore, RM1.42 million will support the Johor Shuttle Bus for free services to critical locations.
Efforts to ensure water security and disaster resilience are also prioritized, with RM7 million designated for environmental conservation, river basin upgrades, and log boom installations. To combat beach erosion, RM2.55 million is allocated for critical areas like Pontian, Mersing, and Muar. Additionally, RM22.6 million is set for drainage system work and flood hotspots, alongside RM9.6 million for flood mitigation.
To address unstable water supply, RM44.5 million will upgrade the distribution system, including RM32 million to raise water pressure and build reserve tanks in supply-end areas. Main pipe replacement in Redong, Segamat will cost RM12.5 million, involving a shift to Air Panas Water Treatment Plant C and the installation of larger pipes.
Structural improvements are planned for Kahang Dam's calming pools, and slope rehabilitation at Juaseh Dam, Segamat. RM1.1 million is allocated for Telemetri Stations rental to monitor water quality, RM600,000 for water quality systems, and RM850,000 for dam risk management.
For road maintenance, RM655 million under the Malaysian Road Records Information System (MARRIS) will maintain state, local, village, and agriculture roads, spanning a network of 26,568 kilometers. Safety enhancements include RM22.76 million for bridge upgrades and road expansion, RM16.88 million for street lamp installations and upgrades, and RM3 million for strategic studies and new projects by the Public Works Department, including Jalan Gunung Pulai's upgrade. The Gelang Patah-Pendas Bridge construction will receive RM5.79 million.
