Jordan’s King Concludes State Visit to Malaysia, Strengthening Defence and Trade Ties

Kuala Lumpur:The King of Jordan, King Abdullah II, has departed Malaysia following a two-day state visit focused on enhancing defence cooperation, expanding trade, and strengthening bilateral ties between the nations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the King and his entourage left Kuala Lumpur International Airport from the Bunga Raya Complex at 1.40 pm. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, alongside several ministers including Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khalid Nordin, were present to bid farewell.

During his visit, King Abdullah held discussions with Anwar Ibrahim on enhancing cooperation in education, trade, and addressing regional and international concerns. Earlier, the King met with Malaysia's Sultan Ibrahim at Istana Negara, where they discussed strengthening defence cooperation, particularly in military technology and drone warfare, to adapt to evolving security challenges.

The leaders acknowledged Malaysia's capabilities in industry and intelligence as complementary to Jordan's efforts to modernize its armed forces. They also highlighted the longstanding intelligence relationship and the potential for further cooperation.

Sultan Ibrahim expressed confidence in bolstering bilateral trade, investment, and educational partnerships. The visit included a special investiture ceremony where Sultan Ibrahim awarded King Abdullah the Darjah Utama Seri Mahkota Negara (DMN), while receiving the Order of Al Hussein Ibn Ali from Jordan.

The visit marked more than sixty years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Jordan, established in 1965. Education is a key aspect of their relationship, with over 1,490 Jordanian students studying in Malaysia. Bilateral trade reached RM993.4 million in 2025, a 15.2% increase from the previous year, continuing to grow in 2026.
