JOTA JOTI Programme Enhances Cybersecurity Awareness Among Perlis Scouts

Perlis: The 2025 Jamboree in the Air (JOTA) and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) programme in Perlis not only provides opportunities for the state's scouts to enhance their digital communication skills but also strengthens their awareness of cybersecurity through the Safe Internet Campaign.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perlis Scout Chief Commissioner Huzaimah Muain stated that the programme, carried out simultaneously nationwide, marked the first collaboration between the Perlis Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Perlis Scouts Association of Malaysia. Huzaimah emphasized the strategic collaboration's impact in fostering digital communication skills and imparting awareness about ethical and integrity-based use of the internet. Participants were exposed to the dangers of cyber misconduct such as online bullying and sexual exploitation.

The programme, organized by the West Perlis Scouts and North Perlis Scouts, was held simultaneously with another at Sekolah Kebangsaan Felda Chuping, involving 649 participants, including teachers and Level Two students from 18 schools across the state. Among the activities conducted were HF radio communication, Morse code, video communication, and interactive sessions on cyberbullying, false information, digital footprints, and age limits for social media use. This approach allowed participants to learn through experience, knowledge, and practical skills, with some managing to establish communication with scout stations abroad, including in Sabah.

Huzaimah noted that JOTA JOTI, held annually in the third week of October, serves as an important platform to enhance global communication skills among scouts while nurturing teamwork and courage to explore new technologies. She expressed hope that the strategic partnership between the Perlis Scouts and MCMC will continue in other initiatives, such as the badge assessment camp, to further expand the reach of the Safe Internet Campaign among students across the state.
