JTKSM Focuses on Upholding Workers’ Rights, Says Director-General

Kuala Lumpur: The Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) is steadfast in its mission to protect the rights and welfare of workers across the nation, as expressed by its director-general Kamal Pardi. Under the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), JTKSM bears the responsibility of enforcing an array of labour laws to safeguard the interests of both employees and employers.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kamal highlighted that the agency is dedicated to ensuring workers' rights are upheld in areas such as wages, leave, housing, and the provision of a safe working environment. These efforts are aimed at prioritizing the welfare, performance, and skills of the workforce, thereby enhancing productivity and contributing to the nation's economic growth. He shared these insights during his appearance on Bernama TV's Apa Khabar Malaysia programme.

JTKSM enforces several key laws, including the Employment Act 1955, the Workers' Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act, and the Minimum Wage Order. Kamal emphasized that the department also oversees the employment of children and young individuals, particularly in industries such as entertainment and modelling, where licenses and permissions are mandated to protect their welfare and educational pursuits.

Kamal further noted that JTKSM conducts regular enforcement operations and inspections at workplaces and employer-provided accommodation facilities to ensure legal compliance. These measures are vital for safeguarding workers' welfare and health, which in turn enhances productivity and work quality by ensuring workers can adequately work and rest.

He encouraged workers to report any mistreatment or rights violations to JTKSM through the appropriate channels or via email, assuring confidentiality of the complainants' identities. Kamal assured that JTKSM would investigate and take action against non-compliant employers to ensure justice for workers.
