Obscene Content: ‘Grup Budak-Budak Sekolah Rendah’ FB Page Shut Down – Teo

Kuala Lumpur: A Facebook group named 'Grup Budak-budak Sekolah Rendah', allegedly involved in sharing indecent images of teenage girls, has been shut down, announced Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. The Ministry of Communications, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), coordinated with Meta to disable the account.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Teo refrained from commenting further due to the ongoing investigation but emphasized that the MCMC will continue collaborating with the police for follow-up actions and further investigations. This statement was made during a charity sale and cultural performance event at a local shopping mall.

Mek Yun, a social media influencer whose real name is Wee Yun Nee, initially brought the group's existence to light and urged authorities to swiftly address the spread of such content. In response, Teo highlighted the MCMC and police's joint initiative, Op Pedo, launched last year, which resulted in 13 arrests and the discovery of over 40,000 child sexual abuse materials and other pornographic content.

Teo also mentioned that the government is implementing the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS), aimed at students across primary, secondary, and tertiary education levels. So far, the MCMC has executed the program in 53 schools, engaging 11,389 participants including pupils, students, teachers, and parents. The goal from May to August is to roll out the KIS in 344 schools nationwide, including at least 20 in Johor.

The campaign educates students on cyberbullying, personal data security, and the risks of interacting with strangers online. Teo urged interested schools to contact the MCMC for arranging digital safety training sessions. Additionally, she encouraged parents to educate their children on safe and responsible internet usage.
