Kota bharu: Kelantan police have opened 25 investigation papers involving bullying offences that occurred in schools in the state for the first nine months of this year. Its police chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, stated that among these, six cases were reported in Kota Bharu, five in Pasir Mas, four each in Machang and Bachok, three in Tumpat, two in Kuala Krai, and one in Tanah Merah.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, bullying is a criminal offence that can be investigated under Sections 507B to 507G of the Penal Code (Act 574), which came into force on July 11, 2025. Mohd Yusoff emphasized that bullying is not a trivial matter and should not be dismissed as a mere joke. He stressed the need to eradicate the culture of bullying, describing it as a social disease that erodes empathy and love among individuals.
Mohd Yusoff expressed concern over the moral challenges faced by society, which he believes are more pressing than economic issues. He highlighted social ills such as rape and incest as emerging threats that could undermine family harmony and jeopardize the future of the younger generation.
Meanwhile, police have observed that drug dealers in Kelantan are flaunting a luxurious lifestyle on social media platforms to entice teenagers into becoming small-scale drug distributors. Mohd Yusoff revealed that information had been received about individuals showcasing their wealth through luxury homes and cars, influencing young people in the state to engage in drug dealing.
