King of Malaysia Urges School Closures Due to Haze

Segamat:The King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim, has emphasized the importance of prioritizing student safety and health in response to the haze affecting the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sultan Ibrahim has suggested the closure of schools in areas where Air Pollutant Index (API) readings are consistently between 150 and 180. He urged the Education Ministry and relevant agencies to take necessary measures to safeguard students, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions.

The King also advised the public to take health precautions, such as wearing face masks and limiting outdoor activities.

In response to the worsening haze, Johor announced a two-day school closure following the decree of Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail. The Department of Environment's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) reported that 38 areas across the nation registered unhealthy API levels as of 9 am today.

Segamat, Johor, recorded the highest API reading at 187, with Nilai, Negeri Sembilan following at 183. Other affected areas in Selangor include Johan Setia (178), Shah Alam (170), Banting (167), Klang (166), Petaling Jaya (165), and Kuala Selangor (155).
