Kuala Lumpur:The KLIA Aerotrain is set to undergo a scheduled software upgrade following 20,000 continuous operational hours to enhance the system's robustness and long-term performance.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the upgrade will take place in two phases. During the upgrade, Aerotrain services will be temporarily suspended from midnight to 5 am, aligning with off-peak standard engineering hours.
Adam Nicholas Wilson, KLIA's chief operating officer, noted that since June 2026, after the Comprehensive Action Plan's completion, the Aerotrain system has achieved a 99.9% availability rate. Over the past 1.5 years, the system has completed 167,481 return trips and transported approximately 23.55 million passengers.
The initial phase involves field testing from October 8 to 17, which will include installing and testing the software under real operating conditions. This phase aims to verify performance and functionality, followed by an independent safety assessment.
Following these assessments, the Roll Out phase is scheduled from November 28 to December 1, when the software will be permanently deployed. To facilitate passenger transfers between the Main Terminal and Satellite Building during this period, a full bussing service will be provided as part of KLIA's contingency plans.
Wilson emphasized the importance of maintaining reliable service for passengers, stating that such upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to support system reliability. Passengers are advised to follow signage to the bus lounge during engineering hours or seek assistance from KLIA ground staff.
