KPDN Sets Up Operations Rooms In Flood-hit States To Ensure Sufficient Food Supply

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has set up operations rooms to ensure sufficient food supplies in the flood-hit states during the monsoon season. Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, stated that the operations rooms in Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan were activated today, noting that, so far, none of the locations had reported food supply cuts.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Fuziah emphasized that the operations rooms are crucial for monitoring and addressing any disruptions in food supplies in affected states. She explained that if the supply of essentials like sugar and milk is interrupted, the operations room would facilitate the delivery of these necessities to the impacted areas. This announcement was made during a media conference following the ASEAN E-Commerce Conference 2025.

Preparations have been made to bolster food storage capabilities, with 2,102 selected wholesalers, retailers, and manufacturers nationwide permitted to increase their food supply storage by up to 30 percent. This measure has been in place since early this month and will continue until the end of the monsoon season to ensure food security.

The number of flood victims has risen in seven states, with a total of 10,922 people affected as of 8 am today. Kelantan has the highest number of victims, with 8,248 individuals from 3,022 families taking refuge in 33 temporary relief centers. While Penang, Perlis, and Perak reported an increase in flood victims, Kedah and Terengganu saw a decrease. Selangor is the latest state to experience flooding.
