KPWKM Supports New SOP for Resolving Minors’ Court Cases Within a Year

Kuala lumpur: Minister of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri expressed support for the new standard operating procedure (SOP) announced by the government to ensure that all cases involving minors are resolved within a year. Media reported today that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said made the announcement of the initiative, which among other matters, aims to strengthen child protection and ensure that cases are managed more systematically.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nancy stated that her ministry supports the implementation of the SOP because it aligns with the federal ministry's responsibility in safeguarding the welfare of children. She emphasized that, although the jurisdiction lies under the Legal Affairs Division, this procedure significantly aids her ministry in ensuring that all administrative and support measures for children are executed correctly.

Nancy also highlighted the importance of cooperation between relevant ministries to ensure that every child-related case, whether involving a child as a victim or as the accused, can be resolved efficiently and adheres to legal guidelines. Azalina was reported to have mentioned that the guidelines will be launched on Oct 24 at the Palace of Justice to strengthen the justice system for minors in the country.
