Kuala lumpur: A total of 7,013 summons notices for various traffic offences were issued in Kuala Lumpur over the first two days of full enforcement of Op Pematuhan Undang-Undang (Op PUU) 2025, which began on Wednesday (Oct 1). Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus revealed the figures, highlighting the city's commitment to improving traffic law compliance.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) issued 6,758 of these summonses, while the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) issued 215 and 40 summonses, respectively. The majority of offences involved obstructing traffic, with 4,963 summonses issued for this violation alone. Other common violations included ignoring traffic lights, which accounted for 389 summonses, and various other infractions totaling 334.
Datuk Fadil Marsus emphasized the zero-tolerance approach towards traffic violations, stating, "There will be no tolerance for errant motorists. We want to instil a culture among Kuala Lumpur residents of respecting the law, regardless of how minor the regulation may seem, whether related to traffic rules or roadblocks." The initial focus of Op PUU was on public hotspots such as Pavilion, KLCC, Lot 10, Sogo, and Jalan Sultan Ismail, with plans to extend the operation throughout the capital.
The enforcement, conducted in collaboration with DBKL, JPJ, and all police units, including the narcotics and commercial crime departments, aims to ensure Kuala Lumpur sets an example as a law-abiding city. This initiative aligns with preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026 and other international events, showcasing the city's dedication to upholding the rule of law.
