Penang: The Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP) has approved nearly RM2 billion in financing within the first two months of this year, benefiting 88,150 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the country. Its Minister, Steven Sim Chee Keong, stated that this achievement reflects the government's commitment to strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem and supporting business growth.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, KUSKOP is increasing efforts through the PowerUp10k campaign, aimed at enhancing the capacity and competitiveness of 10,000 Malaysian companies. Minister Sim emphasized the initiative's goal to ensure business continuity and help businesses scale up to face future challenges. He made these remarks during the 'Balik Rumah One Hope Charity' programme.
Present at the event were Penang Youth, Sports and Health Committee Chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, One Hope Charity Welfare founder and chairman Datuk Chua Sui Hau, and representatives of government and private hospitals in Penang. Beyond financing, the ministry is focusing on expanding market access for MSMEs to ensure sustainable growth.
Addressing economic pressures such as rising diesel prices, Sim acknowledged Malaysia's vulnerability to global uncertainties and geopolitical developments due to its open economy. He noted that some government decisions might be difficult but stressed the importance of protecting the rakyat and maintaining economic stability.
The BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme was cited as an initiative that has helped ensure fuel supply stability, allowing Malaysians to continue enjoying affordable petrol prices. Earlier, the 'Balik Rumah One Hope Charity' programme gathered over 200 beneficiary families, showcasing the impact of aid provided, with the organisation distributing over RM100 million in medical assistance over the past five years.
