Lee Zii Jia Advances to Quarter-finals in Arctic Open 2026

Vantaa:Professional men's singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia has progressed to the quarter-finals of the Arctic Open 2026 in Vantaa, Finland.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the world No. 56 and 2023 champion took 46 minutes to defeat Su Li Yang of Taiwan with scores of 21-17, 21-12 in the second round of the Super 500 tournament at Energia Arena. Zii Jia, who is unseeded, is set for a challenging match against France's second seed, Christo Popov, in the next round.

Popov had previously overcome India's Tharun Mannepalli with scores of 21-14, 21-19. On the other hand, the national mixed doubles pair of Jimmy Wong and Cheng Su Yin were eliminated after losing to Japan's Akira Koga and Natsu Saito, despite winning the first set 21-19, and then losing the next two sets 7-21, 11-21.

Another national mixed doubles team, Chen Tang Jie and Chan Wen Tse, also exited the tournament, losing to China's top seed Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping 15-21, 14-21 in a 40-minute match. In contrast, the national men's doubles pair Aaron Tai and Yap Roy King advanced to the next round by defeating Taiwan's seventh seed team, Lee Fang-Chih and Lee Fang-Jen, 21-19, 21-11 in 39 minutes.

Aaron Tai and Yap Roy King will compete against either Thailand's Peeratchai Sukphun and Pakkapon Teeraratsakul or the Scottish duo Christopher Grimley and Matthew Grimley in the quarter-finals. The Arctic Open 2026, with a total prize pool of US$500,000 (RM2.04 million), continues until October 11.
