Kuala Lampur:Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohamed Taufiq Johari expressed confidence in the national contingent's ability to meet and possibly surpass the set targets for the upcoming Asian Para Games, inspired by the athletes' performance at the recent Asian Games.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Mohamed Taufiq highlighted that the achievements at the Asian Games would motivate para athletes to deliver outstanding performances at the Para Games. He expressed hope not only to meet the target that will be announced but to exceed it, drawing motivation from the positive elements of the Asian Games and the achievements of able-bodied athletes.
During the Bernama Radio Fokus 30 program, which was attended by Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, Dr Mohamed Taufiq shared that the Malaysian contingent's performance at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games matched their best-ever achievement with nine gold medals, surpassing the initial target of six.
The gold medals were secured in events such as karate, e-sports, sepak takraw, squash, and track cycling. Dr Mohamed Taufiq also expressed complete confidence in the team, including athletes, coaches, and the chef de mission (CDM), to achieve the set targets.
The Malaysian contingent at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games aims to secure six gold, 10 silver, and 16 bronze medals, focusing on sports such as athletics, badminton, and boccia.
