Kuala lumpur: The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) has initiated a nationwide blood donation and health awareness campaign, aiming to engage over 5,000 donors across 40 locations in celebration of the National Day and Malaysia Day.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the campaign is scheduled to run from August 1 to September 30. It is a collaborative effort with the National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance and Family Takaful Advisors (NAMLIFA) and the National Blood Centre (PDN). The campaign was officially launched today by Thomas Tan Koon Peng, the director of Bank Negara Malaysia's LINK (Laman Informasi Nasihat dan Khidmat) and Regional Offices Department, at Medan MARA.
LIAM chief executive officer Mark O'Dell emphasized the importance of blood donation, stating, "Blood donation is not just an act of kindness - it saves lives and plays a critical role in treatments, surgeries and emergencies." He urged Malaysians to participate in this national service, highlighting the life insurance industry's commitment to public health, preventive care, and financial resilience.
As part of the campaign, LIAM is hosting a flagship event at Medan MARA from August 7-8. The event will feature free health screenings supported by six healthcare partners, including the National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Institut Jantung Negara, and KPJ Healthcare. The screenings will cover body composition analysis, cholesterol and glucose tests, HPV screening, cancer awareness, and mental health consultations.
LIAM's recent public outreach initiatives include the RM5 million i-MULA 50 Starter Pack Insurance Fund, which offers RM50 insurance subsidies to 100,000 first-time policyholders. To date, more than RM3.3 million has been disbursed, benefiting over 66,000 Malaysians. Additionally, the association continues its focus on women's health through the 'Leaving No One Behind' HPV vaccination and screening program, which provides 100,000 HPV shots and 10,000 cervical screenings to underserved women nationwide.
LIAM also expressed its ongoing commitment to national social protection, praising government support for initiatives like the Perlindungan Tenang Voucher Programme, which benefits up to two million Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah recipients.
