Kuala lumpur: High-quality works of literature should be viewed as vital platforms in the development of civilisation and not merely as biennial achievements, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated at the presentation of the Premier Literature Award of Malaysia (HSPM) 2021/2022. She emphasized that literary works not only reflect the history and thoughts of a people but should also play a role in educating youth through literature in schools.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadhlina noted that the works winning the HSPM have been included in the Literature Component text, serving as vital materials for introducing quality literature to children. She made these remarks in the presence of her deputy, Wong Kah Woh, National Laureate Datuk Dr Anwar Ridhwan, who also chairs the Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka (DBP) Board of Directors, Education director-general Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, and DBP director-general Dr Hazami Jahari.
Fadhlina also mentioned at a media conference that her ministry is considering digitizing recognized works to make them accessible to the public. She acknowledged that while there is an ongoing effort to adapt to current technological trends, it requires significant commitment from all parties to ensure the integrity, quality, and nurturing potential of local literature remain intact.
