Lorry Driver, Businessman Fined RM19,000 Each For Unlicensed Diesel Possession

Shah alam: A lorry driver and a business owner were each fined RM19,000 by the Sessions Court here today for possessing controlled items, namely diesel, without a licence last year. Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad handed down the sentence on Liew Yow Lee, 36, and Phang Yiew Miew, 39, after both pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the duo were found in joint possession of 3,261 litres of diesel at an oil storage facility in the IGB International Industrial area here at about 12.29 pm on Feb 22, 2024. The diesel, kept in an IBC tank and the tank of a lorry, was found in circumstances giving reasonable suspicion of being intended for retail or wholesale trade without a valid licence.

Both men were charged under Regulation 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, an offence under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, punishable under Section 22(1) of the same Act, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code. The offence carries a maximum fine of RM1 million or imprisonment of up to three years, or both.
