Lovebirds Arrested in Johor, Drugs Worth RM2.41 Million Seized

ISKANDAR PUTERI: In a significant drug bust, police in Johor have apprehended a couple and seized a variety of drugs valued at RM2.41 million during a roadside inspection in Mutiara Rini, Iskandar Puteri, last Saturday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Police Chief Datuk M Kumar reported that the couple, comprising a 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, were taken into custody after drugs were discovered in their Toyota Vios. The vehicle was stopped for inspection as part of a special operation.

During the search, authorities uncovered more than 14 kilograms of ecstasy, 24.58 grams of ketamine, 2.75 grams of syabu, and 19.48 grams of ecstasy pills in the car's boot. The total street value of the seized drugs is estimated at RM2.41 million, as stated by Datuk Kumar at a press conference held at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters.

In addition to the drugs, police confiscated jewellery worth RM15,573 and 2,170 Bath (equivalent to RM280).

The suspects, who tested positive for ketamine and benzodiazepines, have prior records related to drug offences. They are currently on remand for seven days beginning last Saturday. The investigation is ongoing under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
