George town: A portion of the road on Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway will be closed periodically for 45 days starting tomorrow to facilitate the construction work of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Mutiara Line project in the area.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn (MRT Corp) announced that the closure will occur from 10 am to 4 pm daily during this period, concluding on October 31. The closure is necessary for utility relocation and road widening works.
The affected section includes the leftmost lane on the Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu Expressway up to the entrance ramp to Gat Lebuh Cecil in front of SMT System Metal Technology Sdn Bhd, heading towards Komtar. Additionally, the exit to the leftmost lane of the expressway from Gudang Gat Lebuh Cecil to the entrance to Gat Lebuh Macallum in front of Proton CS Prima, also heading towards Komtar, will be closed.
The closure extends to the leftmost lane from Gat Lebuh Cecil warehouse to Gat Lebuh Macallum in front of Proton CS Prima, and the exit from Gat Lebuh Macallum in front of PYB Tour Coach Sdn Bhd, all heading towards Komtar. Furthermore, the lane in front of the Xin Xin Dian Temple to the entrance ramp to Gat Lebuh Macallum in front of the Mutiara LRT construction site, and the exit ramp from Gat Lebuh Macallum in front of Mama George Town Tomyam, both heading towards Bayan Lepas, will be closed.
Other routes will remain open to ensure smooth traffic flow despite the closure of entrance and exit ramps at the Gat Lebuh Cecil traffic light intersection heading towards Bayan Lepas. MRT Corp has advised road users to exercise caution, and signboards, traffic cones, and flag marshals will assist in traffic management and safety.
