Kuala lumpur: The Fault Free Run (FFR) for the Shah Alam Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) project is on track, with all phases expected to be completed by the end of February, stated Prasarana group chief operating officer, Dr. Prodyut Dutt.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the FFR's first batch is nearing completion at 99 percent, involving six trains. The second batch, comprising eight trains, is at 82 percent completion, while the third batch, also involving eight trains, has yet to start. The completion dates for these phases are set for January 30, February 2, and February 28, respectively.
Dr. Dutt emphasized that post-FFR, the contractor will conduct trial runs, which must be successfully completed before Prasarana takes over the system and proceeds with trial operations. He noted that the focus remains on deliverables rather than timelines, highlighting the importance of completing the trial run 100 percent successfully.
During a media briefing on LRT3's progress, Dr. Dutt mentioned that the technical team has resolved issues related to signalling software instability and other glitches. The completion of the line is anticipated to increase passenger traffic by seven percent at existing MRT stations along the Kajang and Kelana Jaya lines, with daily ridership projected to reach 100,000 passengers by 2030.
Dr. Dutt further explained that once trial runs are completed and SOPs are refined, all test documents will be submitted to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) for review and approval. He assured that Prasarana is working closely with APAD, which is involved in both the FFR and trial runs.
Previously, Prasarana had confirmed that the Shah Alam Line would not start operations in 2025 due to unresolved system stability and software issues. Prasarana president and group CEO Amir Hamdan stated that the opening date would be announced only after all technical components are certified to operate reliably according to APAD standards.
