Selangor: The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) has initiated a yellow alert following the detection of pink-coloured water in Sungai Kabul at Beranang. This action was taken to address concerns regarding the potential impact on the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (LRA), situated 16.3 kilometres away.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, LUAS identified the pink discharge at approximately 6.40 pm, tracing it back to a final discharge point of a factory located in the Beranang industrial area. The polluted flow, stretching over 500 meters, feeds into both the Beranang and Semenyih rivers. The alert was activated in accordance with the Water Resources Pollution Emergency Manual to ensure a thorough investigation and immediate preventive or mitigating measures.
The factory responsible for the discharge has been ordered to cease operations immediately. LUAS issued a directive under Section 121 (1) of the LUAS Enactment 1999, mandating the facility to undertake prompt clean-up work at the affected site. Additionally, LUAS has conducted sampling for analysis by the Department of Chemistry Malaysia (JKM) and plans to pursue further enforcement actions.
LUAS has implemented static monitoring at Sungai Kabul, with checks every 30 minutes, and is overseeing the clean-up efforts by the involved premises. The situation is reportedly under control. Meanwhile, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has confirmed that there has been no disruption in the water supply due to the incident.
