Mainstream Media Advocated as Primary Source Over Social Media by Communications Minister

Kelantan: Mainstream media should be prioritised as the official source of reference for the public over social media, stated Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. He highlighted the need for social media users to exercise caution and not readily trust information circulating on these platforms.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi emphasized that journalists in mainstream media possess significant experience and connections that enable them to verify information accurately before dissemination. He expressed his belief in prioritizing mainstream media over social media during a press conference after a breakfast meeting with members of the Kelantan Media Club.

Additionally, Fahmi revealed that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is developing a WhatsApp Chatbot aimed at curbing the spread of false information, complementing the existing Sebenarnya.my website. The Chatbot, currently in a 'Beta Trial' version, will utilize artificial intelligence to confirm the authenticity of news when queried by the public.

However, Fahmi noted that the Chatbot can only verify text information and is not equipped to authenticate videos or images shared on social media platforms.
