Malaysia and Maldives Strengthen Diplomatic Relations with Focus on Trade and Education

Putrajaya: The Maldives and Malaysia have reaffirmed their longstanding diplomatic ties, with both nations expressing hope to expand cooperation in education, trade, technology, and climate resilience.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a series of meetings took place in Putrajaya between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. President Muizzu described the discussions as grounded in mutual respect, shared values, and a strong foundation of Islamic faith.

"This year, we celebrate the 57th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between our two countries. Over the decades, our partnership has matured into one characterized by high-level cooperation and people-to-people exchanges," Muizzu stated during a joint press conference with Anwar.

Muizzu expressed gratitude towards Malaysia for its support, particularly in enhancing the Maldives' human resource capacity. He acknowledged the generous assistance and cooperation provided by the Malaysian government and its people over the years.

Muizzu is on a four-day official visit to Malaysia, which began yesterday.
