Malaysia and Pakistan Prioritize Dialogue and Diplomacy Amid Geopolitical Challenges

Islamabad: Malaysia and Pakistan have emphasized the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful solutions in addressing current geopolitical developments and security challenges.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail discussed these matters during his meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and a courtesy call on the chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilan, on the second day of his official visit to Islamabad. Saifuddin Nasution shared Malaysia's experience in prioritizing dialogue and constructive engagement through ASEAN to maintain regional peace and stability.

The meetings offered an opportunity to exchange views on the close Malaysia-Pakistan relationship, which is based on trust, mutual respect, and strong bonds between the people of both countries. Saifuddin Nasution highlighted the importance of expanding ties between parliamentary institutions and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations.

Saifuddin Nasution also visited the Parliament Museum to learn about the history of parliamentary democracy in Pakistan, including the development of its constitutional framework and the country's parliamentary institutions. He emphasized that Malaysia and Pakistan share a strong and longstanding friendship, and that exchanges at the leadership and institutional levels are crucial to ensure the relationship continues to grow, thereby strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

In a separate announcement, Saifuddin Nasution stated that Malaysia and Pakistan agreed to streamline strategic cooperation in security, particularly involving police training, sharing of expertise, intelligence, and passport service efficiency. This matter was conveyed to Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during a courtesy call in Islamabad.

The discussions also reinforced both countries' commitment to translating close ties at the leadership level into more concrete cooperation. Saifuddin Nasution shared the outcomes of his bilateral meeting with Pakistan's Federal Minister of Interior and Narcotics Control, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, which identified several areas of strategic cooperation, particularly in police training, sharing of expertise, intelligence, and security matters of mutual interest.

Additionally, several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are being refined as follow-up measures to strengthen cooperation between the ministries and security agencies of both countries. Saifuddin Nasution expressed optimism that the official visit would create greater opportunities to strengthen the longstanding friendship between Malaysia and Pakistan through more structured and practical institutional cooperation.

He reiterated that Malaysia and Pakistan have strong friendly ties and that this visit paves the way to further strengthen those ties through enhanced security capabilities and mutual benefits for both countries.
