Malaysia Celebrates Diversity with Deepavali Outreach Initiative

Seremban:Diversity in culture, language, religion, and customs represents Malaysia's true wealth, essential for fostering harmonious relationships within the community.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy National Unity Minister R. Yuneswaran emphasized that festivals are not merely occasions for celebration but also opportunities for communities to share joy, strengthen bonds, and appreciate the diversity that forms the strength of Malaysian society. He highlighted that during festive seasons, a spirit of goodwill emerges among people of different races and religions as they visit each other, mingle, and share meals. This cultural character, he noted, should be cherished and preserved for future generations.

Yuneswaran also pointed out that the government cannot single-handedly strengthen national unity; the private sector and community involvement are crucial in translating unity values into daily actions and practices.

In conjunction with Deepavali, Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (MYDIN) is extending its efforts to 15 selected welfare homes across the nation through the 'A Brighter Deepavali' campaign. MYDIN executive director Ahimmat Mydin stated that the company is partnering with radio stations Raaga and Minnal FM, as well as the newspaper Makkal Osai, to ensure the success of this initiative.

Through the "MYDIN Prihatin" initiative, MYDIN and its supplier partners will donate RM100,000 in cash vouchers and basic necessities to welfare homes registered with the Social Welfare Department. Ahimmat Mydin also encouraged the public to contribute basic necessities via donation baskets available at selected MYDIN branches until October 30. Contributions aim to spread the joy of Deepavali, with aid distribution scheduled from November 1 to 8.
