Ministry of Digital Offers Free Coursera Access to 100,000 Malaysians

Kuala Lampur:The Ministry of Digital, through MyDIGITAL Corporation, is providing 100,000 learning licenses for Malaysians to access courses on digital and artificial intelligence (AI) via Coursera. The initiative, offered through the Rakyat Digital portal, grants three months of complimentary access to more than 16,000 courses and Professional Certificate programs from leading universities and industry experts.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, The government-funded Global Learning Pass allows Malaysians with a MyDigital ID to enroll in courses related to AI, technology, data science, business, and digital literacy starting from September 16. These licenses will be distributed in phases, depending on eligibility and availability.

Initial data indicates strong engagement, with 12,900 learners enrolling in 43,000 courses within the first three weeks, especially in regions like Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang, and Perak. The most popular course thus far is "Understanding Digital Transformation," a custom course developed by MyDIGITAL Corporation using Coursera's Course Builder. This course, designed for beginners, covers technologies such as cloud computing, AI and machine learning, blockchain, IoT, and 5G.

The initiative is part of the Rakyat Digital ecosystem and supports both the Malaysia Digital 2030 Action Plan (MD2030) and the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030, aligning with Malaysia's AI Nation 2030 goals. Ministry of Digital Secretary-General Datuk Fabian Bigar emphasized the ministry's commitment to making AI and digital learning accessible to all societal segments, aiming to create a future-ready workforce.

Coursera Global Head of Enterprise Anthony Salcito highlighted that this initiative marks a significant step towards fostering a culture of lifelong learning and supports Malaysia's AI and digital transformation agenda.
