Kuching: The Malaysia Day 2026 celebration, set to take place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) in Sarawak on September 16, aims to embody the harmony and unity of Malaysians across different regions through a showcase of diverse cultures and shared beliefs.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah emphasized that this year's celebration will uniquely highlight the spirit of Segulai Sejalai (togetherness) by uniting various races in a national-level official event. The demonstration of harmony will be evident through the Majlis Kesyukuran, organized by the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) on September 14, showcasing unity among followers of different religions.
Abdul Halim noted that the Majlis Kesyukuran will include people of various faiths contributing according to their beliefs to ensure the smooth running of the ceremony. He shared these remarks during his appearance on the Apa Khabar Malaysia program produced by Bernama TV.
Following this, a Majlis Kesyukuran for Muslims will occur at the State Mosque on September 15, attended by Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar. Abdul Halim mentioned that the highlight of the Malaysia Day celebration would feature local traditions, including a symbolic cutting of pulut kuning instead of the typical cake-cutting ceremony. Additionally, the Malaysia Proclamation Book signing by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will commemorate the unity of Malaysians.
The event will also be enriched with performances like silat, hadrah, gendang pampat drumming, a lion dance, a theatre performance depicting Malaysia's formation, a concert featuring local artists, and a fireworks display at the Kuching Waterfront. Abdul Halim invited all Malaysians to watch the live broadcast of the celebration on RTM TV1 and TVS, with special coverage by Bernama.
He expressed confidence that Malaysians are eagerly anticipating the 2026 celebration, noting that efforts have been made to ensure its success despite potential weather challenges. Abdul Halim hoped for a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere, with the events proceeding smoothly, with Allah's permission.
