Nagoya:Aichi-Nagoya Malaysia's quest for a historic 10th gold medal at the Asian Games ended in disappointment as the country settled for silver in both padel and men's hockey.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Christian Didier Chin and Aidan Yunus clinched silver in men's padel doubles, while the national hockey team was defeated 1-5 by defending champions India at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium.
Malaysia concluded Day 15 with a total of nine gold medals, equaling their best performance since the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games but falling short of setting a new record. The padel final saw Christian and Aidan, who were making their debut, lose 3-6, 1-6 to Qatar's top seeds Mashari Naif and Rashed Naif at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Centre. Despite the defeat, the silver marked a significant milestone as padel was featured for the first time at the Games.
The final opportunity for a 10th gold rested with the Speedy Tigers in men's hockey. However, India retained their title with a dominant performance, securing an automatic spot for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Malaysia, finishing as runners-up again, missed the chance to qualify directly for the Olympics, a scenario mirrored in the 2010 and 2018 editions.
Despite not adding to their gold tally, Malaysia's Aichi-Nagoya campaign matched their best-ever Asian Games performance.
