Malaysia Positioned as Emerging Global Hub for Alternative Dispute Resolution

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia's goal of becoming a leading global hub for alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is now within reach, driven by the nation's strategic location, cultural and legal expertise, and unwavering commitment to neutrality and credibility.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof emphasized Malaysia's advantageous position at the crossroads of major trade routes, highlighting the country's ability to serve as a bridge between East and West. He pointed out that Malaysia's diverse cultural landscape and robust legal framework bolster its standing as a neutral and credible ADR destination. Fadillah praised the efforts of Datuk Sri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), for her pivotal role in spearheading legal reforms that strengthen Malaysia's ADR capabilities.

Speaking at the Asia ADR Week 2025, Fadillah also introduced the Asian International Arbitration Centre's (AIAC) Suite of Rules 2026, marking an important step in enhancing Malaysia's ADR infrastructure. This launch, along with the establishment of the AIAC Court of Arbitration, signifies substantial institutional reforms and a dedication to procedural excellence and global best practices.

Fadillah, who also serves as Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, underscored the importance of ADR as a means of fostering dialogue and collaboration in a world often marked by conflict. He asserted that these values align with the Malaysia MADANI vision, which emphasizes inclusivity and shared responsibility in governance and conflict resolution.

Highlighting recent legislative advancements, Fadillah mentioned the Arbitration (Amendment) Act 2024 and the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act (CIPAA) (Amendment) Act 2024 as transformative reforms that modernize the country's dispute resolution framework. These changes, coupled with AIAC's institutional improvements, are seen as crucial steps in positioning Malaysia as a leader in the global ADR landscape while maintaining transparency and trust at the core of its system.
