Malaysia Positioned to Thrive in Evolving Space Economy, Says MOSTI

Langkawi: Malaysia has the capacity to capture the rapidly evolving space economy industry, leveraging its large local talent pool, ample resources, and advanced infrastructure and technology. Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) deputy secretary-general (Technology Development) Datuk Dr Mohd Nor Azman Hassan highlighted Malaysia’s strategic geographical advantage, noting that the country’s equatorial location offers significant benefits for sustainable satellite rocket launches.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Nor Azman explained that launching rockets from the equatorial line allows for reduced resource and fuel consumption, ultimately leading to cost savings. He shared these insights after delivering the opening speech at the Space Conference – Space Economy Revolution: Trends, Technologies And Strategies event. The half-day conference took place alongside the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) 2025 exhibition, attracting 150 participants, including senior officers from Southeast Asian space agencies, industry players, academia, and international organizations.

The conference, organized by Global Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd (GEC) and supported by MYSA, served as a strategic platform to address challenges in the space sector at various levels.

GEC strategy advisor Datuk Nonee Ashirin Mohd Radzi and MYSA director-general Datuk Azlikamil Napiah were also present at the event, underscoring the collaborative efforts to position Malaysia as a key player in the global space economy.
