Kuala lumpur: Malaysia does not arbitrarily sell fuel to other countries as the government's priority is to ensure sufficient domestic energy supply for the people, stressed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, emphasized the nation's focus on maintaining an adequate energy supply for domestic needs.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, discussions with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese focused on the importance of complementary bilateral trade resources, rather than involving the sale of fuel as alleged by certain parties. Anwar clarified that Malaysia is not engaged in selling fuel but is instead focused on acquiring necessary supplies like phosphate from Australia while providing urea in return.
Anwar further explained that the government is currently unable to supply diesel to external parties, as the existing supply must be reserved for domestic use. He mentioned that considerations for external supply would only be possible in the event of a surplus, which is not the current situation. Anwar refuted allegations suggesting otherwise, deeming them inappropriate.
Malaysia and Australia have reaffirmed their joint commitment to ensuring a stable and resilient energy supply amidst global uncertainties. During the two-day official visit of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to Malaysia, both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining open trade flows to bolster the economies of both countries.
