Malaysia Seeks ACMI Providers to Strengthen Asia-Pacific Aviation Sector

Malaysia: Malaysia is extending an invitation to global aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI) providers and investors to establish operations within the country. The move aims to capitalize on Malaysia's strategic location and robust connectivity to facilitate expansion across the Asia-Pacific region.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah has expressed the government's support for the growth of ACMI operators in Malaysia. He emphasized that ACMI is not just a leasing solution, but a growth enabler that can enhance regional connectivity, accelerate fleet modernization, and facilitate the scaling of new airlines and routes, especially in underserved and high-potential markets. These remarks were made during the 'Expanding Asia's Aviation Market with ACMI' Leadership Forum hosted by Avia Solutions Group and Ascend Airways.

Hasbi highlighted the timely nature of exploring ACMI as a globally recognized aviation solution that could drive growth, stability, and change within Malaysia's aviation sector. He acknowledged the significant contributions of aviation stakeholders, including airlines and aerospace manufacturers, in positioning Malaysia as a respected and competitive player in the Asia-Pacific aviation market. Hasbi noted that Malaysia has evolved from being just a participant in the global aviation landscape to a builder of capacity, enabler of growth, and innovator of change.

To maintain this progress, Hasbi stressed the importance of evolving strategies and incorporating ACMI into Malaysia's aviation growth blueprint. He suggested that ACMI could become a key component of the nation's aviation strategy by enhancing operational agility, supporting route development, creating high-quality jobs, and facilitating fleet modernization.

ACMI, a specific type of aircraft leasing arrangement, involves the lessor providing an aircraft, flight and cabin crew, all necessary maintenance, and insurance to the lessee airline.
