Malaysia Sets Sights on First-Ever Medals at Junior Track Cycling World Championships

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia is placing high hopes on the national junior cycling squad to win medals at the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, from Aug 20 to 24. According to BERNAMA News Agency, deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim expressed optimism, highlighting the potential for the four young riders to make history as Malaysia has yet to secure a medal in this championship.

Deputy Minister Adam Adli emphasized the significance of not just participation but aiming for podium finishes. He indicated the importance of nurturing new talents in cycling, aspiring to develop more athletes like Datuk Azizulhasni Awang, Shah Firdaus Sahrom, and Fatehah Mustapa. He shared these thoughts while flagging off participants of the ASEAN Solidarity Ride 2025 at Dataran Batu Buruk.

The four cyclists carrying the nation's hopes are Sawda Hasbullah, Nur Umairah Qhaisara Zulfikha Razak, Luqman Haqim Ali Badrun, and Yu Jing Liang. Sawda Hasbullah, in particular, has shown promise, having previously won two gold medals and one silver at the Asian Track Cycling Championships at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, last February.
