Malaysia Successfully Convinces Myanmar to Accept Returning Refugees

Kuala Lumpur:Malaysia has become the first country to successfully persuade Myanmar to accept the return of its refugees, marking a notable diplomatic achievement. This announcement was made by Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, spokesperson for the MADANI Government and Communications Minister.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized this accomplishment as an extraordinary diplomatic success. He noted that all repatriated individuals were returned at Myanmar's expense, highlighting Malaysia's significant diplomatic efforts.

The official visit of Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing on October 7 and 8 facilitated discussions aimed at ensuring more refugees could be repatriated. Fahmi Fadzil stated that efforts are underway to repatriate over 3,000 Myanmar refugees from various ethnic groups soon. He urged BERNAMA and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) to closely monitor these developments as part of Malaysia's strategy to enhance diplomatic relations globally.

Previously, Malaysia completed the first phase of a repatriation program, involving 1,476 Myanmar nationals transported using three vessels, including a hospital ship from the Myanmar navy. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also reported that Myanmar is prepared to support the large-scale repatriation financially.

Fahmi Fadzil also highlighted other diplomatic achievements, including visits to Malaysia by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Jordan's King Abdullah II, along with the Global Sumud initiative to support Palestinian people. These diplomatic initiatives are expected to enhance Malaysia's international standing and aid those in need, including Palestinians.
