Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia would continue to fight for justice by opposing the Israeli occupation of Gaza. He emphasized that Malaysia, despite being a small country, has made significant efforts to advocate for the rights and liberation of the Palestinian people on the global stage.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar expressed his disappointment with the world's political system, calling it hypocritical and shameful. He noted that many expect Malaysia to do more, highlighting recent efforts by European countries to block new arms sales, which he described as belated given the massive loss of life, including 50,000 women and children.
Anwar, who also serves as the president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), made these comments during the closing speech of the PKR 2024/2025 annual National Congress. He acknowledged support from various international figures, including Pope Leo XIV, who has called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Anwar stated that PKR values those who take a stand for justice in Palestine, emphasizing the need to continue the struggle against colonization, specifically Israeli colonization in Gaza.
Additionally, Anadolu Agency reported on May 13 that at least 52,908 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 2023. Furthermore, last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its actions in the region.
