Kuala lumpur: Malaysia will convene a Special Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers in the near future to assess the current situation and support measures to ease tensions in the region. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced this initiative as part of Malaysia's role as ASEAN Chairman, emphasizing the importance of strengthening ASEAN's collective role in maintaining regional peace.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar shared this information in a Facebook post following a discussion with Vietnamese Prime Minister Ph?m Minh Chnh. The conversation focused on current developments in the region and joint efforts to ensure continued peace and stability.
Anwar further highlighted Malaysia's commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation with Vietnam to tackle the issue of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The cooperation will involve coordination in enforcement, information sharing, and preventive measures.
Expressing confidence in resolving the issue, Anwar stated, "I am confident that through continued dialogue and existing mechanisms, this issue can be resolved with prudence, calm, and mutual respect."
