Kuala lumpur: The proposed transfer of the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) and Matriculation studies from the Ministry of Education (MOE) to the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) will not interfere with students' learning processes, Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh has stated. Wong emphasized that the transition would be carefully planned and executed after thorough discussions between the two ministries.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister Wong mentioned that next week, officials from MOE and MOHE are scheduled to meet to establish a timeline for the proposed transition. He highlighted the importance of a well-organized shift, noting that immediate changes would be impractical due to the complexities involved, such as asset management, maintenance, and the allocation of teaching staff.
Wong made these comments during an event where he launched smartboards for 83 Tamil national-type schools (SJKT) in Perak, a project funded with an allocation of RM984,000. His remarks follow an announcement by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, who revealed plans to form a special committee to evaluate the proposal of moving the STPM and Matriculation programmes under MOHE. This initiative is part of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), set to commence in 2026.
Earlier media reports on December 7 indicated that Minister Zambry views this move as a strategic step towards streamlining assessment processes and enhancing student pathways to universities. This is among the significant reforms envisaged in the Higher Education Development Plan 2026-2035.
